There's only 12.5 days left of school. We cannot believe how fast this year has gone by!
This week, we completed a few more assessments to wrap up units.
In Math, we finished learning about fractions. We have started to learn about our last unit on money. We will continue this unit next week. In Science, we finished the simple machines unit by building our own simple machines. Next week we will work on some year end activities. In Social Studies, we are working on our last project of the year. We have been researching a country we haven't learned before and making a fictional character to describe his/her necessities to live. Next week we will make a book out of it. In English, we have been working on a trailer for Robert Munsch books. Next week we will finish off the trailers and have them posted on Seesaw. In Art, we will be doing a reflection about all the artwork we have done in grade 2. In Dance, we have been working in groups to dance to "Just dance" songs. Next week we will be performing our dances to the class.

2E had an excellent week!
In Math, we are learning about division and we will be having a test next Wednesday. In Science, we have been learning about the six simple machines. So far, we learned about the lever and inclined plane. Next week we will finish learning about the other four. You should be creating your playground diorama by now as it is due next Thursday, May 30. In Social Studies, we are learning about our last community, Arctic Canada. We have learnt about their unique housing, food, recreation, and clothing. Next week we will be comparing the four communities we learnt to Gillis island. In English, we are working on a book report about one of Robert Munsch's books. Next week we will finish the book reports and work on reading one of his books with expression. In Dance, we performed our group's cumulative dance and have begun to dance to a song of our choice. We will be performing that in the weeks to come. In Art, we are still learning about space. We have drawn buildings from an ant's point of view and today we drew the planets in our solar system from different angles.

Another week has gone and before we know it, summer is here! We had another week of learning many new things!
In math, we are well into out multiplication unit. Next Monday, we will have a multiplication assessment and start division. In Science, we have started to learn about the six different simple machines. Next week we will learn about each one individually. In Social studies we have finished learning about Nigeria. This week we started to study about Arctic Canada and the housing the Inuits live in. Next week we will continue with food, recreation, and clothing. In English, we have finished our Haiku poems. We will now be focusing on writing a book report for a Robert Munsch story. In Dance, we will start to present out cumulative dance to wrap up the dance unit for the year. In art, we are still learning about space and we started to draw an art from an ant's perspective. Next week we will finish it.

2E had an excellent week! We ended off our week by going to Foodstep Journey. It was an eye opening experience!
In Math, we finished the mass and capacity unit and we have started our final unit of multiplication and division. Next week we will continue with that. In Science, we are continuing with our final unit of simple machines. We have learnt about forces of push and pull as well as friction. Next week, we will start to explore the 6 different simple machines. You should also be starting to create your playground diorama at home which is due on May 30. In Social studies, we are learning about Nigeria. We learnt about where it is located in the world, the housing, and the food. Next week we will finish studying Nigeria and learn about Arctic Canada. In English, we have been writing our Haiku poems and started to make our poetry booklet. In Dance, we are still working on our culminating dances. In Art, we made something special for our moms. Remember to give that to her on Sunday, May 12!

We had a busy week learning many new things.
In Math, we started our capacity and mass unit. We learnt about mass and we are now learning about capacity. Next week we will have a test about those two concepts. In Science, we started a new unit on simple machines. We started learning about the push and pull movements. Next week we will start learning about the 6 different simple machines. You should also be starting to create your playground diorama at home which is due on May 30. In Social studies, we learnt about South Korea and the things that sustain the society. Next week we will be learning about Nigeria. In English, we have been learning about syllables and how to write Haiku poems. Next week we will be writing more haiku poems and make a poetry booklet. In Dance, we are continuing to work on our culminating dances. In Art, we started a new unit on space. We learnt about depth perception and how to draw it.

2E had a wonderful week back from Easter break!
In math, we wrapped up our measurement unit and will start a new unit on capacity and weight next week. In science, most of us have finished our animal booklets and are now sharing them with our friends to read. Next week we will start our last science unit, simple machines. In social studies, we have finished studying Brazil and now learning about South Korea. We have been learning about the essential needs that make a community sustainable (housing, food, recreation, clothing). In english, we have finished letter writing and emailing. Next week, we will continue poetry and learn how to write haiku poems. In dance, we are still working on making our dances with our groups. We will present them hopefully next week. In art, we have painted our assemblages and will bring them home next week.

We ended off this week with a field trip to Kadoorie farm. Even though it was raining, we still saw some animals and enjoyed the nature around us! Please check out the photos!

In science, we are still working on our animal booklets. We are going to finish them after the holidays and allow our friends to read them too. In social studies, we are learning about communities. We are focusing on Brazil and the 4 essential needs in a community. We looked at housing and food. After the break we will focus on their recreation and clothing. In English, we finished the letter writing and email unit and have begun poetry. After easter, we will learn about haiku poems. In dance, we have been working on our own dance routine. After the break, we will continue to practice and present them to the class. In art, we are still working on assemblages. We will finish painting them after the break.

Another week is over and 2E had learned many things!
In math, we started our measuring unit. We have learnt how to measure things in metres and centimeters with objects, rulers, and measuring tapes. We are now learning about perimeter and next week about area. In science, we are wrapping up our animal unit with a culminating project. We will have the animal books completed by next week. In social studies, we are well into the communities unit. We are have learnt about what sustains a community, and then we will learn about Brazil. Next week we will continue with learning about the unique things in Brazil. In English, we are still learning about letter writing and emails. Next week we will finish that unit. In dance, we learnt how to dance to other countries' culture dances. Next week we will do a reflection on them. In art, we will continue to make our assemblages just like the artist, Louise Nevelson.

2E had a wonderful week, full of new learning.
In math, we are wrapping up the 3D shape unit and are getting assessed on our Gillis islands we made with paper. Next week we will start a new unit on measurement. In social studies, we wrapped up the mapping unit with some assessments and will start a new unit about communities. In science, we are still learning about animals. This week we learnt about animal adaptations and habitats. Next week we will be learning about how animals affect humans and vice versa. In English, we are learning about letter writing and inferences. Next week we will learn about how to write emails. In dance, we learnt about a different country's dance, specifically about China and their ribbon dance. Next week we will learn about another country's dance. In art, we are studying about textures. We read "Where the wild things are" and drew our own monsters with textures. Next week we will begin studying an artist, Louise Nevelson. Please collect things with texture and bring them in next Friday, March 29.

What a week in grade 2! We had lots of learning that happened this week.
To start off the week, we had a field trip to Quarry Bay Park. On our way there, we mailed our friendly letters and hunted for 3D & 2D shapes around us. We had so much fun!
In math, we are continuing the 3D shapes unit. We have begun making our own 3D shapes out of paper and will be using them to make buildings in our island. Next week we will continue to plan and build our shapes. In science, we are continuing our animals unit and learnt more about life cycles and compared them to ours. Next week we will look at animals and how they survive. In social studies, we continued to explore about landforms and why we like to visit famous ones around the world. In English, we are learning about inferencing and doing an author study on Robert Munsch. In dance, students are learning the 5 elements of dance and we will continue to practice the different elements in our dances..

In math, we are continuing 3D shapes. We learnt about the attributes of the shapes and will continue exploring and building them next week. In science, we are continuing our animals unit and learnt about the life cycle of different animals. Next week we will look at animals that are born from eggs. In social studies, we looked at how to use a compass and started to learn about the different land forms around us. Next week, we will continue with that. In English, students are finishing their cereal box ads and will be assessed on that next week. In dance, students are learning the 5 elements of dance and we will continue learn a different element next week.

2E accomplished many things this week and events that happened.
We had pink shirt day and going on the Discovery museum field trip. It was real fun! Be sure to check out pictures of both events under phots section.
In math, we finished the 2D shape unit and started learning about 3D shapes. We explored with the different shapes and built structures with them. Next week we will continue with this unit. In science, we finished the animal test. Next week we will continue to learn about animals, specifically looking at life cycle of animals. In social studies, we are continuing the mapping unit. This week we looked at the compass and how to use it. Next week we will introduce land forms. In English, students have been learning about advertisements and the message they portray. We are going to continue this next week and start making our own cereal box ads. In dance, we learnt about the 5 elements of dance and danced to just dance songs. In art, we studied about an artist called E.C. Escher. We also recreated the tessellation technique in our artwork.

Term 2 is well underway and 2E has started a few new units this week.
In math, we finished the 2D shapes unit and now we are onto symmetry. We explored using a mira to help us with symmetrical figures. Next week we will finish off the short unit. In science we are learning about the 6 animal groups and the 5 B's in each group. This coming week, we will have a quiz on animals. In social studies, we started a new unit on maps. We have been learning about the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Next week we will be learning about the compass and how to use it. In English, we have been working on features of non-fiction texts and creating a informational writing. Next week we will continue with non fiction features and starting a new topic in media. In art, we did an artist study about E.C. Escher and are working on an art that uses the tessellation technique. In dance, we have been dancing to music and creating our own dances. Next week we will be learning about the elements of dance.

This week has been a busy week. In social studies, we are starting a new unit on mapping. We started to learn about the 7 continents and oceans as well as features on a map. In Math, we finished the graphing unit and started a new unit on 2D shapes. When we come back, we will continue to explore more shapes. In science, we are in the animal unit and started talking about the different animal groups along with their distinct characteristics. In English, students are learning about non fiction text features and we have been working on non fiction features- all about me. In dance, we are continuing to learn about the elements of it, specifically looking at non locomotor and locomotor movements.

As we are drawing closer to the Chinese New Year holiday, 2E continued to wrap up some units we have been working on. We are wrapping up our celebrations and traditions unit by learning a little bit about Chinese New Year and comparing it to new year celebrated in other countries. They also got to do some Chinese New Year art to celebrate the year of the pig. In Math, we are finishing learning how to use tallies to create graphs that show information. Next week we will have a graphing test. Students have started a new unit called Dance. We will be learning the elements of dance throughout term 2. English students are getting the opportunity to do their reflections of term 1 and we will begin term 2 next week. We ended off the week with teachers coming to our class today and teaching us about digital citizenship. It was fun! :)

Happy New Year! Students had a busy first week back with lots to accomplish before the Chinese New Year holiday. In Math, we started the probability unit and we will have a test next week. In Science, we finished the matter unit and made ice cream as an activity to consolidate the unit. We will start the animals unit next week. In Social Studies, we are continuing to analyze changes in a community and why they occur. In Art, students are still learning about the element of line and studied about an artist called Victor Vaserely. They also made a 3D hand art. In drama, students will learn about reader's theater next week. In English, students are going to finish the media unit and finish off their comics.

We started off last week with our trip to Ocean Park. Students had a blast exploring the different exhibits, including some new ones. Be sure to check out some of the pictures on the Photos page. Back at school, we've had a busy week, continuing to prepare for the winter concert, while continuing our learning in all subject areas. In Math, we are well into our time and temperature unit. We had an assessment on time last week and we are learning about temperature and how to read a thermometer. In Social Studies, we continued to learn about different celebrations and worked on our inquiry project about two celebrations we are interested in. In Science, we learned about buoyancy and finished making our clay boats. We are wrapping up the matter matter science unit and will finish the unit learning about different transparencies and also with a special treat. In Art, we are finishing the lines unit and we worked on the mitten art and designing a Christmas tree. English students finished working on explanatory writing and continued to learn about different types of media. We are going to learn about how to create comics next week.

It has been a busy week in grade 2. In Science, we are continuing our Solids and liquids unit. We learnt about buoyancy and things that can sink or float. We also made our own tin foil boats. We will continue with that on Monday with our very own clay boats. In Math, we started a new unit on time and temperature. We have been looking at how to measure time with seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years. Next week, we will focus on telling time in quarter intervals. In Social Studies, we are moving from family traditions onto community traditions. We are very lucky to live in such a diverse community, and I encourage you to have as much conversation as possible about traditions and celebrations you witness within Hong Kong. We will learn about different celebrations from different cultures. This week, we started by looking at Diwali and Remembrance Day and some of the traditions that take place (wearing a poppy, a moment of silence). In Art, we started a new unit on lines and made an artwork involving mittens, and in Dance, we continued with the element of voice and worked on the MSQRD app. .

This week, students started to learn more about other their friends' cultures in multi cultural week by completing their cultural booklets. In Math, we finished our addition unit and we started to learn about subtraction and different strategies to use. In Science, students wrote learned about viscosity, which means how fast or slow a liquid moves. Next week, we will continue to learn more about characteristics of liquids and solids and how they interact. In Drama, are continuing to learn about character roles. In Art, students continued learning about value and worked on a pointillism art. Students also began learning their dance for the winter concert and are doing a fantastic job so far. We hope you are excited to see how it all comes together!

It was a busy week in Grade 2 this week. Students are finishing up last assignments in many units and getting ready to move onto new units. In Math, we are well into addition and will have a test next week. In Science, students finished working on their Sustainability posters and finished presenting them. We have started our new unit on Solids and Liquids next week. Students worked with partners to compare several aspects of their family lives (traditions, structure, etc.). In Social Studies we will shift our focus to celebrations and traditions within the community so students can learn more about things that take place beyond their own family. In Drama, students started to learn about voice and using them to portray characters. In Art, we started learning about value and made a tint and shade ice cream art. In English, students began working on persuasive writing by stating their opinion and trying to use facts to support their opinions.

This week, Grade 2's started exploring number stories in Math, learning how to solve number stories and make their own number stories. In Social Studies, they spent the week learning about the changes in traditions and the reasons why. In Science, they worked on their sustainability posters of air and water. Next week, we will start presenting them. In Drama, they learned about the element of tension. Next week they will create a skit that shows tension. English students continued working through the writing process and used the 6 traits writing to write about a time they felt an emotion. In Art, students worked on a Halloween artwork with a tree silhouette. .

In Drama, students started making a tableau on Jack and the beanstalk, and in Art, we made a spider art with colors. English students finished learning about the 6 traits of writing and will work on a writing that includes all of the traits next week.

It was another busy week in Grade 2. In Math, we started our second unit on Number relationships and students have practiced making estimates and counting things in groups (counting by 2's, 5's, 10's). In Social Studies, we continued learning about different types of families and began comparing families using a venn diagram. In Science, we learned about ways we use water and then we will learn about sustainability. In English, students have continued learning about the 6 traits of writing. In Drama, students are working in groups to create a a tableau story. In Art, students got messy (sorry for the laundry!) using pastels to show emotions in art.

We are now done our first month of school and are well underway with our learning. Students have done a great job learning the routines in our classroom. This week in Math, we finished our Patterning unit, and now will move onto Number Sense and Numeration next week. In Science, students are learning about the 4 parts of the water cycle and will work on a Tableau assessment next week. In Social Studies, we are learning about different types of families. Students will start to compare their families and others next week. In Art, we learned about how you can represent different emotions using colour and we studied about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. In Drama, we are learning about tableau and using the different elements of drama in them .

In the classroom this week, we continued building patterns in Math, ending with a pattern assessment this week. Students will continue to explore growing and shrinking patterns early next week, then will have a unit test mid-week (likely Wednesday). In Science, we explored the characteristics of air and water, then learned about water in three forms (solid, liquid, gas). Next week, students will explore the water cycle. In Social Studies, we started talking about our families and what makes them special. Next week, we will continue to look at families and the similarities and differences that come with them. In Reading, students are learning about making connections, predictions, and feelings while they read and are continuing to learn about the 6 traits of writing. In Art, we learned about how you can represent different emotions using colour and made an artwork like a famous Canadian artist, Ted Harrison.

In Science, we started to learn the characteristics of water, and next week, will have a test on air and water. In Social Studies, we started talking about our families and what makes them special. Next week, we will continue to look at families and the similarities and differences that come with them. In Reading, students are learning about making connections, predictions, and feelings while they read and are continuing to learn about the 6 traits of writing. We had a very successful second full week of school and are underway in our learning. In Social Studies, we started our unit about family and traditions and began to learn about our countries of origin. In Science, we began learning about air and wind and discussed about typhoons. In Math, we began sorting by two attributes, and used venn diagrams to help us do this. We will have a sorting test on Monday. In Art, we learned about primary colours and mixed them to make secondary colours. English students are learning about past tense verbs and how to make connections to books. We also were able to take out library books. Please make sure library books are returned every Friday so a new book can be taken out. Have a good weekend! :)

The first full week of school was very successful and it has been wonderful getting to know the students of 2E. Students have been getting used to routines and rules of Grade 2. We've had a few get to know you activities and made a trip to the school library. We will begin to take out library books next Friday and Friday will continue to be our library day. Please make sure library books are returned every Friday so a new book can be taken out the following week. One thing I have noticed is that some students are in the wrong uniform for the day. Please review the correct uniform your child should be in by checking in the student handbook (pg. 9-10) under "DSC Handbook" section. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

In English, we are learning about letter writing and inferences. Next week we will learn about how to write emails. In dance, we learnt about a different country's dance, specifically about China and their ribbon dance. Next week we will learn about another country's dance. In art, we are studying about textures. We read "Where the wild things are" and drew our own monsters with textures. Next week we will begin studying an artist, Louise Nevelson. Please collect things with texture and bring them in next Friday, March 29.

What a week in grade 2! We had lots of learning that happened this week.
To start off the week, we had a field trip to Quarry Bay Park. On our way there, we mailed our friendly letters and hunted for 3D & 2D shapes around us. We had so much fun!
In math, we are continuing the 3D shapes unit. We have begun making our own 3D shapes out of paper and will be using them to make buildings in our island. Next week we will continue to plan and build our shapes. In science, we are continuing our animals unit and learnt more about life cycles and compared them to ours. Next week we will look at animals and how they survive. In social studies, we continued to explore about landforms and why we like to visit famous ones around the world. In English, we are learning about inferencing and doing an author study on Robert Munsch. In dance, students are learning the 5 elements of dance and we will continue to practice the different elements in our dances..

In math, we are continuing 3D shapes. We learnt about the attributes of the shapes and will continue exploring and building them next week. In science, we are continuing our animals unit and learnt about the life cycle of different animals. Next week we will look at animals that are born from eggs. In social studies, we looked at how to use a compass and started to learn about the different land forms around us. Next week, we will continue with that. In English, students are finishing their cereal box ads and will be assessed on that next week. In dance, students are learning the 5 elements of dance and we will continue learn a different element next week.

2E accomplished many things this week and events that happened.
We had pink shirt day and going on the Discovery museum field trip. It was real fun! Be sure to check out pictures of both events under phots section.
In math, we finished the 2D shape unit and started learning about 3D shapes. We explored with the different shapes and built structures with them. Next week we will continue with this unit. In science, we finished the animal test. Next week we will continue to learn about animals, specifically looking at life cycle of animals. In social studies, we are continuing the mapping unit. This week we looked at the compass and how to use it. Next week we will introduce land forms. In English, students have been learning about advertisements and the message they portray. We are going to continue this next week and start making our own cereal box ads. In dance, we learnt about the 5 elements of dance and danced to just dance songs. In art, we studied about an artist called E.C. Escher. We also recreated the tessellation technique in our artwork.

Term 2 is well underway and 2E has started a few new units this week.
In math, we finished the 2D shapes unit and now we are onto symmetry. We explored using a mira to help us with symmetrical figures. Next week we will finish off the short unit. In science we are learning about the 6 animal groups and the 5 B's in each group. This coming week, we will have a quiz on animals. In social studies, we started a new unit on maps. We have been learning about the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Next week we will be learning about the compass and how to use it. In English, we have been working on features of non-fiction texts and creating a informational writing. Next week we will continue with non fiction features and starting a new topic in media. In art, we did an artist study about E.C. Escher and are working on an art that uses the tessellation technique. In dance, we have been dancing to music and creating our own dances. Next week we will be learning about the elements of dance.

This week has been a busy week. In social studies, we are starting a new unit on mapping. We started to learn about the 7 continents and oceans as well as features on a map. In Math, we finished the graphing unit and started a new unit on 2D shapes. When we come back, we will continue to explore more shapes. In science, we are in the animal unit and started talking about the different animal groups along with their distinct characteristics. In English, students are learning about non fiction text features and we have been working on non fiction features- all about me. In dance, we are continuing to learn about the elements of it, specifically looking at non locomotor and locomotor movements.

As we are drawing closer to the Chinese New Year holiday, 2E continued to wrap up some units we have been working on. We are wrapping up our celebrations and traditions unit by learning a little bit about Chinese New Year and comparing it to new year celebrated in other countries. They also got to do some Chinese New Year art to celebrate the year of the pig. In Math, we are finishing learning how to use tallies to create graphs that show information. Next week we will have a graphing test. Students have started a new unit called Dance. We will be learning the elements of dance throughout term 2. English students are getting the opportunity to do their reflections of term 1 and we will begin term 2 next week. We ended off the week with teachers coming to our class today and teaching us about digital citizenship. It was fun! :)

Happy New Year! Students had a busy first week back with lots to accomplish before the Chinese New Year holiday. In Math, we started the probability unit and we will have a test next week. In Science, we finished the matter unit and made ice cream as an activity to consolidate the unit. We will start the animals unit next week. In Social Studies, we are continuing to analyze changes in a community and why they occur. In Art, students are still learning about the element of line and studied about an artist called Victor Vaserely. They also made a 3D hand art. In drama, students will learn about reader's theater next week. In English, students are going to finish the media unit and finish off their comics.

We started off last week with our trip to Ocean Park. Students had a blast exploring the different exhibits, including some new ones. Be sure to check out some of the pictures on the Photos page. Back at school, we've had a busy week, continuing to prepare for the winter concert, while continuing our learning in all subject areas. In Math, we are well into our time and temperature unit. We had an assessment on time last week and we are learning about temperature and how to read a thermometer. In Social Studies, we continued to learn about different celebrations and worked on our inquiry project about two celebrations we are interested in. In Science, we learned about buoyancy and finished making our clay boats. We are wrapping up the matter matter science unit and will finish the unit learning about different transparencies and also with a special treat. In Art, we are finishing the lines unit and we worked on the mitten art and designing a Christmas tree. English students finished working on explanatory writing and continued to learn about different types of media. We are going to learn about how to create comics next week.

It has been a busy week in grade 2. In Science, we are continuing our Solids and liquids unit. We learnt about buoyancy and things that can sink or float. We also made our own tin foil boats. We will continue with that on Monday with our very own clay boats. In Math, we started a new unit on time and temperature. We have been looking at how to measure time with seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years. Next week, we will focus on telling time in quarter intervals. In Social Studies, we are moving from family traditions onto community traditions. We are very lucky to live in such a diverse community, and I encourage you to have as much conversation as possible about traditions and celebrations you witness within Hong Kong. We will learn about different celebrations from different cultures. This week, we started by looking at Diwali and Remembrance Day and some of the traditions that take place (wearing a poppy, a moment of silence). In Art, we started a new unit on lines and made an artwork involving mittens, and in Dance, we continued with the element of voice and worked on the MSQRD app. .

This week, students started to learn more about other their friends' cultures in multi cultural week by completing their cultural booklets. In Math, we finished our addition unit and we started to learn about subtraction and different strategies to use. In Science, students wrote learned about viscosity, which means how fast or slow a liquid moves. Next week, we will continue to learn more about characteristics of liquids and solids and how they interact. In Drama, are continuing to learn about character roles. In Art, students continued learning about value and worked on a pointillism art. Students also began learning their dance for the winter concert and are doing a fantastic job so far. We hope you are excited to see how it all comes together!

It was a busy week in Grade 2 this week. Students are finishing up last assignments in many units and getting ready to move onto new units. In Math, we are well into addition and will have a test next week. In Science, students finished working on their Sustainability posters and finished presenting them. We have started our new unit on Solids and Liquids next week. Students worked with partners to compare several aspects of their family lives (traditions, structure, etc.). In Social Studies we will shift our focus to celebrations and traditions within the community so students can learn more about things that take place beyond their own family. In Drama, students started to learn about voice and using them to portray characters. In Art, we started learning about value and made a tint and shade ice cream art. In English, students began working on persuasive writing by stating their opinion and trying to use facts to support their opinions.

This week, Grade 2's started exploring number stories in Math, learning how to solve number stories and make their own number stories. In Social Studies, they spent the week learning about the changes in traditions and the reasons why. In Science, they worked on their sustainability posters of air and water. Next week, we will start presenting them. In Drama, they learned about the element of tension. Next week they will create a skit that shows tension. English students continued working through the writing process and used the 6 traits writing to write about a time they felt an emotion. In Art, students worked on a Halloween artwork with a tree silhouette. .

It was a busy week in Grade 2 this week. Students are finishing up last assignments in many units and getting ready to move onto new units. Next week they will work on their Sustainability posters. We will start our new unit on Solids and Liquids the following week. Students worked with partners to compare several aspects of their family lives (traditions, structure, etc.). Soon we will shift our focus to celebrations and traditions within the community so students can learn more about things that take place beyond their own family. In Drama, students started making a tableau on Jack and the beanstalk, and in Art, we made a spider art with colors. English students finished learning about the 6 traits of writing and will work on a writing that includes all of the traits next week.

It was another busy week in Grade 2. In Math, we started our second unit on Number relationships and students have practiced making estimates and counting things in groups (counting by 2's, 5's, 10's). In Social Studies, we continued learning about different types of families and began comparing families using a venn diagram. In Science, we learned about ways we use water and then we will learn about sustainability. In English, students have continued learning about the 6 traits of writing. In Drama, students are working in groups to create a a tableau story. In Art, students got messy (sorry for the laundry!) using pastels to show emotions in art.

We are now done our first month of school and are well underway with our learning. Students have done a great job learning the routines in our classroom. This week in Math, we finished our Patterning unit, and now will move onto Number Sense and Numeration next week. In Science, students are learning about the 4 parts of the water cycle and will work on a Tableau assessment next week. In Social Studies, we are learning about different types of families. Students will start to compare their families and others next week. In Art, we learned about how you can represent different emotions using colour and we studied about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. In Drama, we are learning about tableau and using the different elements of drama in them .

In the classroom this week, we continued building patterns in Math, ending with a pattern assessment this week. Students will continue to explore growing and shrinking patterns early next week, then will have a unit test mid-week (likely Wednesday). In Science, we explored the characteristics of air and water, then learned about water in three forms (solid, liquid, gas). Next week, students will explore the water cycle. In Social Studies, we started talking about our families and what makes them special. Next week, we will continue to look at families and the similarities and differences that come with them. In Reading, students are learning about making connections, predictions, and feelings while they read and are continuing to learn about the 6 traits of writing. In Art, we learned about how you can represent different emotions using colour and made an artwork like a famous Canadian artist, Ted Harrison.

We had a very successful second full week of school and are underway in our learning. In Social Studies, we started our unit about family and traditions and began to learn about our countries of origin. In Science, we began learning about air and wind and discussed about typhoons. In Math, we began sorting by two attributes, and used venn diagrams to help us do this. We will have a sorting test on Monday. In Art, we learned about primary colours and mixed them to make secondary colours. English students are learning about past tense verbs and how to make connections to books. We also were able to take out library books. Please make sure library books are returned every Friday so a new book can be taken out. Have a good weekend! :)

The first full week of school was very successful and it has been wonderful getting to know the students of 2E. Students have been getting used to routines and rules of Grade 2. We've had a few get to know you activities and made a trip to the school library. We will begin to take out library books next Friday and Friday will continue to be our library day. Please make sure library books are returned every Friday so a new book can be taken out the following week. One thing I have noticed is that some students are in the wrong uniform for the day. Please review the correct uniform your child should be in by checking in the student handbook (pg. 9-10) under "DSC Handbook" section. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)
